MODERNIZE OUR MINDSET

MODERNIZE OUR MINDSET

By Willie Mell

When I was working with ExxonMobil  Corporation,  I was taught a life changing lesson  - to adapt!

At ExxonMobil there is no language, sex, race  or nationality.  Everyone is equal, and ExxonMobil's culture is change and adaptation. If you're rigid, there's no place for you!.

I remember, one time a  senior petroleum engineer who just arrived from the US but sadly got terminated  forthwith because he didn't put on his seatbelt. Very insignificant rule, isn't it?  Thing is simply  he didn't comply with conditions he had agreed and signed.. Him coming from the same country didn't  matter  to ExxonMobil!.

The principle ExxonMobil learnt over time from US is adaptation and change that gives ExxonMobil the competitive edge!

Because  US is multicultural and open and survived  through changing times, ExxonMobil learnt those  principles. You flow with the change or you are extinct.  That's the winning edge making US the most powerful country on the planet, and ExxonMobil  learnt from it and also becomes  one of the industry  leaders in the green energy sector.

I wished should PNG be run in the same manner.  Then PNG could change overnight -  province or district for that matter.

When I was a small boy,  my uncle Parua Kuri was the MP for Dei (for 3  consecutive terms). But I hardly  recall a moment  he built  permanent houses for all the people in Dei or did he put them on payroll during his term.

Sadly  our way of life and politics  never changed much in the last 45  years. What is predominant to this day is, THE NAME MUST NOT GO DOWN (quoting Dr. Ketan).

A politician doesn't change someone's life but him/herself. The PNG constitution doesn't allow an MP to directly build  permanent houses or put everyone on payroll  during a term. BUT education  does!

If you're an educated elite,  employed or running your own business,  DON'T  hypnotize the vast ignorant  to your advantage for your own personal gain!!  Rather being a leader teach them how to "fish', not to feed them with fish". You cannot feed them everyday and you know it.

CHALLENGE TO INTENDING CANDIDATES

If you think you can make a best national  leader, do not use simple  people  for your own personal gain!  Be a leader enough to  do more educated  awareness  and show why you're  contesting to fill the missing gaps!

Time for tribal name, alliance, and prestige is over. New and advanced generation requiring advanced  and strategic  approach for common good   - not to go undercover with  evil intent all the time.

If you're an intending candidate,  what are your indiscriminate policies that the all of Dei people, WHP and PNG as a whole will benefit?

And how can you intelligently  debate national and international issues  affecting our lives?

What is your selling pitch, your value proposition? How can Dei economically benifit from you, and in what ways?

This is the time to shine brightly in the dark.
We don't  want  hypocrites and pretenders but real men and women who can shift the paradigms and bring real change  and set new benchmarks.

Times are changing  Be a real  21st leader!!
